Practice Areas
Personal Injury

Our Health and Insurance practice acts for defendants in three main areas - industrial injury/road traffic, aviation and medical.

Personal injury actions

We are involved in the defence of an increasing number of personal injury actions, most notably in acting for employers and insurers in relation to industrial disease claims (e.g. asbestos-related disease and deafness, occupational asthma, repetitive strain injury and work-related stress). We represent hauliers and road traffic insurers in relation to high value personal injury claims.

The aviation law experts in Scotland

We work closely with leading aviation lawyers and have been involved in every major Scottish aviation accident in recent years and in landmark decisions on the interpretation of the Warsaw Convention.

Medical claims defence

Representing two of the leading UK medical defence organisations in Scotland (the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland and The Medical Protection Society), our medical negligence practice is exclusively defender-based. We handle civil claims for medical negligence brought against doctors and dentists, with a major part of our role being to represent the interests of doctors (and sometimes NHS Trusts) at fatal accident inquiries. We also act for doctors and dentists in matters of a criminal nature and in disciplinary proceedings, including complaints that go to the General Medical Council. The firm represents the British Medical Association in Scotland.

In the area of professional negligence, we also advise on claims made against solicitors. We act as Scottish agents for London underwriters.
