Smart Metering: Legal Issues

The Government has unveiled plans for every home in Britain to be equipped with smart meters by the end of 2020. The anticipated benefits of smart metering include reducing the UK's energy use, cutting carbon emissions, bringing an end to estimated bills, visits from meter readers and saving energy customers money. However, the introduction of smart metering will also bring with it legal concerns including objections on privacy grounds and IT/outsourcing issues regarding system installation and procurement.
This seminar will consider some of the topical legal issues relevant to smart metering. It will provide an overview of smart metering put into a legal context and will thereafter focus on data protection issues, consider the IT law aspects of smart metering and will also specifically focus on issues relating to outsourcing.
Audience
This seminar is aimed at all those with an interest in smart metering in the utilities sector including regulators, utility companies and service providers.
Speakers
The programme will include a guest speaker from the Information Commissioners Office.
