Scotland's New Children's Hospice is back on track

  • CHAS continues progress with Scotland’s second hospice for kids
  • Shepherd and Wedderburn advises on new contract with Kier Scotland

CHAS, the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, is back on track with the building of its second hospice for children. Construction of Robin House, the new hospice in Balloch, was delayed when Lilley Construction went into administration in January 2004.

Now, thanks to legal advice from Shepherd and Wedderburn, one of Scotland’s leading law firms, CHAS has appointed Kier Scotland to carry on the charity’s vital work.

Shepherd and Wedderburn has advised CHAS on various legal matters for two and a half years. The firm, which has offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and London, acts for corporate, commercial, public sector and private clients throughout the UK and abroad.

Lynne Mendelsohn, a partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn, commented:
“It has been extremely rewarding to be involved with such an important project. We have helped to ensure that, despite previous setbacks, CHAS – and Kier Scotland - are set to fulfil the promise of delivering a new hospice for Scotland’s children. We are delighted to have played a key role in such a worthwhile venture.”

Support from celebrities such as Ewan McGregor and Sharleen Spiteri has helped raise money for CHAS’s new hospice, Robin House. They are already familiar faces at Rachel House in Kinross, currently Scotland’s only children’s hospice.

CHAS Chief Executive Agnes Malone said: “We are delighted that, thanks to the support of partners such as Shepherd and Wedderburn, the construction of the new hospice is back on track. However, we still need to complete our £10 million appeal and build up our resources to underpin the operating costs of two hospices. We are thrilled to be making progress with Robin House once again, but we still need the support of the Scottish people!”
