Young Scots to benefit from new online resource

Young entrepreneurs in Scotland are to benefit from a new partnership between youth enterprise charity, The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) and leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn.

The PSYBT, which helps young people aged 18 to 25 set-up and continue in business, has been selected as Shepherd and Wedderburn’s Annual Charity Partner for the year 2005/2006. As well as donating a healthy sum to the PSYBT revolving loan fund, the law firm, which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Aberdeen, will fund a new online business information resource and provide a series of informative articles and answers to frequently asked questions through a designated section on the PSYBT website.

Suzanne Chaudhry, Marketing Manager at Shepherd and Wedderburn said: “The PSYBT is doing great things in Scotland for young entrepreneurs and their proposal to us highlighted a tangible project with real business benefits to both parties. Our Community+ programme brings cause-related marketing into the marketing strategy of the firm. Rather than working with charities on a reactive basis, over that last three years we have worked together with our Annual Charity Partners on specific opportunities that allow us to link in to our marketing objectives.

“Over the last few years we have worked in partnership successfully with Barnardo's, Enable and Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. The PSYBT project allows us to forge links with some promising new enterprises and they can benefit from practical guidance on a range of important business issues.”

The PSYBT chief executive Mark Strudwick said: “This new partnership will bring in crucial funds for our revolving loan fund and create an informative new arm for our website. We want to encourage young people to visit the site for their own benefit and to help raise the amount allocated to the revolving loan fund, as this will be directly linked to the amount of registrations on the site. The information provided will be a combination of new industry legislation and legal issues which have been brought to our attention.”

The weblink will go live in September 2005 on the PSYBT website (www.psybt.org.uk). The legal articles will be provided by Shepherd and Wedderburn with ACCA providing financial advice. The young entrepreneurs will also be able to suggest topics for articles and put forward specific questions on issues affecting their industries.
