Shepherd and Wedderburn recruits oil and gas industry senior executive

Law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has recruited another experienced oil and gas industry specialist as consultant to its oil and gas practice.

John Southworth joins Shepherd and Wedderburn in January with over 30 years' international experience in the oil and gas sector, including consultancy work for Conoco and ExxonMobil. His varied experience has included the drafting of a wide range of contracts including joint operating agreements, asset sales, tie back agreements and pipeline arrangements.

Southworth, who will divide his time between the firm's Aberdeen and London offices, was previously head of Nabarro Nathanson's oil practice and was also Head of Legal at Marathon Oil UK with responsibility for their European activities. His experience also includes work with Burmah Oil, Chevron Petroleum, The British National Oil Corporation and Saxon Oil.

Shepherd and Wedderburn chief executive, Patrick Andrews, said:
"John's appointment as consultant is a real coup for the firm and a major success for our growing energy practice. John's appointment reinforces our commitment to the oil and gas sector and will help us to build on the reputation we have already established, partly through the opening of our Aberdeen office 18 months ago."
