Deals information: Gateshead Schools PPP
Shepherd and Wedderburn recently acted on behalf of the Sir Robert McAlpine sponsored consortium in completing the Gateshead Schools PFI scheme, comprising two secondary and five primary schools with a capital value of £55m.
The firm, which has four offices in the UK, demonstrated that niche expertise over geographical location is more important when closing a deal.
As a recognised leader in the field of acting for the public sector in PPP deals, particularly education, the firm has strengthened its offering for the private sector, with this deal being one in a line of recent closures on high profile projects.
Chris Arnold, a partner in the Construction & Special Projects team at Shepherd and Wedderburn commented: “Shepherd and Wedderburn has now completed 18 deals in the education sector and is acting in another eight live projects. Having built up a reputation in the public sector, we are increasingly using that knowledge to the benefit of private sector bidders and their funders. Through our strength on either side of the education PPP process, we can offer all our clients an informed view from all aspects of the deal, which has proved invaluable.
“Besides underlining our strength in the sector, the Gateshead deal shows that it is this strength in knowledge and experience, and not necessarily being on the doorstep of the project, that counts.”
The firm also recently acted for Miller Construction in the Fife Schools PPP(2) and is currently acting for Amec Construction and FM on the South Lanarkshire Schools PPP deal.« Back to Press Releases
