Shepherd and Wedderburn tees up success for new golf and sports centre

Shepherd and Wedderburn has provided property, planning and construction advice to Playgolf Kilmartin for the development of a £20 million sports centre at East Kilbride.

The 220,000 sq ft sports centre, based close to East Kilbride's Kingsgate Retail Park, will feature the country's largest indoor tennis centre, football facilities, a gym, a driving range and a nine hole 'tribute' golf course, based on some of the most famous holes on Open Championship links courses.

Shepherd and Wedderburn, which also provides legal services to the £28 million Aberdeen Regional Sports Facility, has been involved in numerous aspects of the project including: negotiating the mainframe Development Agreement and Head Lease; negotiating lettings of individual elements to Playgolf and other sub-tenants; planning advice; and in particular, significant levels of advice on complex construction issues with a view to procuring the completed development.

Property partner Nick Ryden, who led the Shepherd and Wedderburn team, stated: "The firm's involvement in this project demonstrates the strength of our property and construction expertise in advising on some of Scotland's most significant and exciting projects. This flagship project will have a positive economic impact on the area and community through the creation of 200 jobs, in addition to providing state-of-the-art public sports facilities."
