Shepherd and Wedderburn doubles corporate tax offering

Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has expanded its corporate tax offering with the appointments of Stephen Miller as partner and Anthony Concanon as a consultant.

Stephen joins from Brodies and has 10 years' experience advising on all aspects of direct and indirect corporate tax, and Anthony is dual-qualified as a chartered accountant and solicitor, with extensive experience in tax structuring and corporate transactions in the UK and overseas.

Patrick Andrews, Chief Executive of Shepherd and Wedderburn, said: "Stephen and Anthony are great additions to the firm. We have seen considerable growth in the corporate tax arena in recent years and we are committed to appointing the most knowledgeable and experienced advisers to ensure that this practice group continues to develop.

"These appointments come as the firm prepares to move into larger offices in Edinburgh, reflecting the success of Shepherd and Wedderburn and our plans for continued growth in the future."

Shepherd and Wedderburn is recognised nationally for its expertise in corporate tax and these appointments are part of a broader expansion of the team to further strengthen its position in this field.

The corporate tax team has worked on a number of high profile deals during 2007 including tax planning for the separation of the Indian oil and gas assets of FTSE 100 company Cairn Energy plc, prior to its $6 billion IPO. The corporate tax team has also implemented structures for commercial property clients mitigating SDLT on transactions worth in excess of £2 billion.
