Shepherd and Wedderburn doubles up for charity

Shepherd and Wedderburn has linked up with a brace of charities as part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Community+.

Children's charity Barnardo's and Macmillan Cancer Support have been selected by the leading UK law firm to be its Annual Charity Partners for 2007-08. As part of the Community+ programme, staff at Shepherd and Wedderburn will take part in a year-long schedule of events to raise money for both organisations.

Suzanne Chaudhry, Shepherd and Wedderburn Marketing Manager, said: "We are thrilled to announce Barnardo's and Macmillan Cancer Support as our Annual Charity Partners. We have an exciting fundraising programme planned for the next year and hope to secure a significant sum of money for both charities.

"The aim of our Community+ programme is to make a positive contribution to causes local to each of our offices. It also helps develop the skills of our staff through them undertaking tasks and challenges that benefit the charities."

Joanne Barkey from MacMillan Cancer Support said: "I am delighted that Shepherd and Wedderburn has chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support as one of its charity partners. It costs on average £52,520 to fund a Macmillan Nurse for one year and if each of the firm's 550 staff raised £100, Shepherd and Wedderburn has the potential to raise a staggering £55,000 for Macmillan. It just shows how every little helps and adds up to a huge amount.

Martin Crewe, Director of Barnardo’s Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of Shepherd and Wedderburn’s Annual Charity Partners. We very much rely on the goodwill of, and fundraising contributions from, companies such as Shepherd and Wedderburn − the money from this partnership will go towards Barnardo’s Scotland three specialist services which help vulnerable young people leaving care that cost around £2.2 million in total to run. The specialist services based in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow reduce the risk of homelessness and help young people leaving care cope with independent living.”

Shepherd and Wedderburn's previous Annual Charity Partners have included Enable, Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres and the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust.
