£40 million Wind Farm Deal
UK law firm, Shepherd and Wedderburn, recently advised I & H Brown Toddleburn Limited in its successful bid to secure the go-ahead to develop a £40m wind farm at Toddleburn in the Scottish Borders. Consent followed a public inquiry in 2006. The facility will comprise 12 turbines, generating up to 36 MW (megawatts) of electricity, and is now set to be commissioned in 2009 by Scottish and Southern Energy.
The team led by Colin Innes included Sandra Leece, dealing with planning and environmental issues, and Karen Shaw advising on property issues.
Liz McRobb a Partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn, and a specialist in renewable energy, said: “Consent for this development is significant. While there are investors ready and willing to develop wind-energy, Scotland’s planning system is complex and time-consuming for them. Deals like Toddleburn will help to contribute to the country’s renewable energy ambitions. With Scotland's target for electricity from renewable energy set at 40% by 2020 there is a huge amount still to be done.”
Shepherd and Wedderburn's specialist renewable energy team has worked on more than 80 wind farm projects since 1993 and has built up a wealth of experience providing clients with comprehensive legal services, from initial project inception to completion including: land acquisition; planning and environment; regulatory advice; grid connections; procurement; engineering, construction and supply chain; project finance and operation and maintenance agreements.
This experience ranges from small 2MW initiatives to full scale schemes such as Clyde wind farm; Whitelee wind farm, which is Europe's largest consented onshore wind farm; and the Beatrice Wind Farm Demonstrator project, which involves the world's deepest offshore wind turbines.
