Decommissioning Hot Topic At Legal Seminar
As decommissioning becomes an increasingly important issue for the North Sea's oil and gas sector, leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn is preparing to hold a seminar to discuss the many factors companies need to consider before and during the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas installations.
The breakfast event will explore the background and current status of decommissioning in the UKCS, the international experience, the regulatory role of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the tax implications and the operator's perspective.
Leon Moller, an Aberdeen based lawyer with Shepherd and Wedderburn, who will be speaking at the seminar, said: "Although the predicted life expectancy of North Sea production is benefiting from a resurgence, oil and gas companies are increasingly obliged to address the many issues involved in the decommissioning process.
"While procedures and voluntary guidelines developed by the Government and industry are making the implementation of decommissioning programmes easier for companies, it is vital they also consider the specialised legal, tax and environmental aspects required of them before the decommissioning process begins."
Also speaking at the seminar will be: Suzanne Wilson, an associate at Shepherd and Wedderburn; Keith Mayo, Manager of Offshore Decommissioning for the DTI, Chris Gray, UK Decommissioning Manager for ConocoPhillips and Derek Reid, Senior Manager, Business Tax Advisory at Ernst & Young LLP.
The Decommissioning Seminar will take place on 20 March 2007 at the Hilton Aberdeen Treetops Hotel from 8.30 am – 11.00 am.
