Partner embarks on African volunteering adventure
A partner from UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn is set to embark on a 6-month volunteering experience in Africa.
Starting in January 2007, Lynne Mendelsohn, who specialises in construction, engineering and renewable energy projects, will be undertaking a voluntary work programme during a break from legal work.
Lynne, who has been with the firm for six years, will work as a teaching assistant in a school for orphans in Livingstone, Zambia; volunteer at Antelope Park, Zimbabwe which has a specific programme for releasing lions back into the wild; and work on a conservation reserve in the Drakensberg range in South Africa.
Throughout her trip Lynne will keep her colleagues up to date with her travels via an online blog, before returning to the firm in autumn 2007.
Lynne said: "I consider myself very fortunate to have this opportunity to contribute to such worthwhile projects while being able to expand my horizons and develop new skills. The support and encouragement of my clients and colleagues has been tremendous and I look forward to returning in the autumn refreshed and invigorated."
Patrick Andrews, chief executive of Shepherd and Wedderburn added: “The firm supports self-development and encourages the development of management and leadership skills in different contexts, which are practical and aid the community. This is an exciting opportunity for Lynne and we wish her the best of luck on her trip.”
Lynne’s colleagues at Shepherd and Wedderburn have been donating funds and items such as pencils, notebooks and children’s books and toys for the school for orphans.
