Glasgow council looking at help for commercial property sector
Glasgow city council is planning measures to help commercial property developers during the economic downturn.
The council may make about £3.7 million available to commercial property developers through making land disposal easier and partnerships between the council and development firms, according to documents seen by the Herald.
Such measures are being planned to move the property sector on from being in the pipeline to actually going under construction, according to comments made by George Ryan of Glasgow city council in a report.
The plans would be financed with money from the Better Glasgow Fund, which is meant to support regeneration work.
Glasgow city council last month approved plans for the regeneration of Maryhill Locks and Spiers Locks on the Forth and Clyde canal, which will result in the development of new residential and commercial properties.
Councillor Ryan said: "New neighbourhoods, businesses and attractions along this stretch of the canal could transform the face and economic success of the north of the city."
