Workers do 'not know benefit rights'

Many workers do not know that they are able to take many of their benefits with them when they leave a business, it has been claimed.

Graham Tinney, senior partner at Foster Denovo, made his comments at Employee Benefits Live 2008 and said that there is a need to let workers know that they can take benefits, such as private medical schemes, with them when they leave their job.

"If you're leaving with a private medical scheme you can take out your own private medical contract individually, the same thing with income protection, otherwise known as permanent health insurance," Mr Tinney explained.

Employee Benefits Live 2008 took place at the Business Design Centre London and ran from September 30th to October 1st, with a record attendance this year.

A selection of free conference sessions was on offer and attendees were able to speak to 100 specialist suppliers about individual needs and benefits solutions.
